La Catrina Contest

We are hosting our first ever Catrina Costume contest for our Celebración del Día de Muertos! Contestants who want to enter must read over the rules and register!

Contest Details & Rules

Deadline for Registration

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 6:00 PM

Date of Contest

Sunday, November 2, 2025

Time of Contest

Contestants must check in to Contest Booth no later than 4:30 PM at Crown Hill Memorial Park. 

Contest Layout

After participating in a short parade from the gates of the cemetery to the front of the mausoleum, contestants will be asked to stand before a panel of 2-3 judges. While judges deliberate their scores, contestants will perform a short "fashion show" where they can show off their costume individually to the crowd. After this, the winners will be announced. 

Contest Prizes

The contest will reward prize money to the 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place contestants based on the judging criteria. 


First Place Winner: $500 


Second Place Winner: $250


Third Place Winner: $100

How are Winners Paid?

The winners will have the option of waiting until the end of the event to receive a check (roughly 8:00 PM) or they can have the check mailed to their mailing address.

Judging Criteria

Judges will be determining the winners based on 4 principles:


-  Originality - Uniqueness of costume design and interpretation of the Catrina concept

-  Aesthetic Value - Visual appeal

-  Attitude - Reflection of La Catrina’s elegance through their presentation

-  Thematic - Use of the art show theme of Alebrijes: Spirit Animals

Other Requirements & Rules

-  Participants must be at least 18 years and older

-  Participants must register online by Wednesday, October 29, 2025 by 6:00 PM.

-  No masks (Must have face painted or decorated)

-  No street clothes attire

-  No Halloween attire or references

-  Participants must arrive in full costume

-  Contestants must arrive at the designated Contest Check-In booth by 4:30 PM for costume check-in. 

-  Participants must participate in the Opening Procession Parade at 5:00 PM.

-  Participants must behave respectfully and cooperatively with other contestants, staff, and attendees.

-  Participants must consent that their photos and/or videos may be used for promotional purposes by Hughes Family Tribute Center
